Japan Box Office: ‘Your Name’ Regains Top Spot

TOKYO – After slipping for a week, mega-hit animation “Your Name” reclaimed the top spot at the Japanese box office that it had previously held for nine weeks.

For the November 5-6 frame the film earned $2.8 million, while boosting its cumulative total to $172 million. This elevates it to number seven on the all-time box office list in Japan, behind “Princess Mononoke” on $185 million.

The highest ranking new release was “Drowning Love,” debuting in fourth. Based on George Asakura’s comic about a teenage model (Nana Komatsu) in Tokyo forced to return to her home in the boonies, where she finds romance in a local rich boy, the film bowed on 162 screens, with Gaga distributing. In its first weekend it recorded $1.0 million.
