‘Another Time,’ ‘Lady of the Lake’ Among Kolkata Festival Winners

KOLKATA — The 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival closed on Friday with NETPAC award for Asian competition films shared between Bradley Liew’s “Singing in Graveyards” that has previously had festival play at Venice and Busan, and Haobam Paban Kumar’s “Lady of the Lake” that bowed at Busan and won the India Gold competition at Mumbai.

In the international competition for films by women directors, Iran’s Nahid Hassanzadeh’s “Another Time” won best film, and a cash prize of $75,000 (INR 5.1 million,) which is one of the largest awards in the global festival circuit.

In the same category, China’s Yao Tingting won best director for “Yesterday Once More.” The jury gave a special mention to Mili Ben Hayl and Tamar Shippony’s “Cheer Me Up” from Israel.

The evening concluded with a lavish outdoor party at a Bollywood-meets-Greco-Roman set located in verdant gardens on the outskirts of the city, hosted by Shree Venkatesh Films, the largest producers of Bengali-language cinema. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, local superstar Prasenjit Chatterjee, Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon and a host of talent were in attendance.
