Newly Reconciled Patrick and Jillian Dempsey Quietly Buy in Malibu

BUYERS: Patrick and Jillian Dempsey
PRICE: $6,400,000
SIZE: 4,415 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Not long after all the celebrity gossip blogs and other entertainment news outlets feverishly reported hospital drama hunk Patrick Dempsey and his celebrity make-up artist wife Jillian Dempsey officially reconciled after they split up in early 2015, they made a $6.4 million down-low acquisition of an approximately one-acre, fully landscaped estate in the guard-gated Serra Retreat enclave in Malibu. Listing details and other online resource show the two-story, clapboard-sided quasi-Colonial traditional has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 4,415-square-feet of “Newly remodeled” interiors with “updated custom interiors and new finishes throughout” that give it an airy and contemporary vibe.

A black topped driveway, which this property gossip can imagine would be so much more attractive laid with pea gravel, makes a long sweep across the front of the house that opens to a double height foyer that steps down to a formal living room with vaulted ceiling, poured concrete fireplace with cantilevered hearth, and a full wall of wood-framed glass doors that open to the backyard. The sleek yet still homey, family-friendly contemporary kitchen features slab marble counter tops and brick-shaped marble tile back splashes, duo-color black and bone colored cabinetry, and a double wide center island with integrated snack counter. One side of the kitchen flows in to a dining room with printed graphic wallpaper and on another to a step-down combination informal dining space/and family room with marble fireplace and glass doors that opens to a dining terrace and swimming pool. Also downstairs, per listing details, are a den/library with fireplace, an en suite bedroom for guests or staff and a “bonus area.” Two guest/family bedrooms share a bathroom on the upper level and are joined by a master suite that includes a walk-in closet and all-new bathroom with two-sink vanity, egg-shaped two-person soaking tub, and a separate, marble-lined and glass-enclosed shower. The flat and private backyard incorporates a large flagstone-paved terrace, emerald-green lawns dotted with mature palm trees, a free-form swimming pool, and a chain link fence ringed lighted tennis court.

Mister and Missus Dempsey, who continue to own an ultra-modern micro-compound in Venice acquired in late 2014 for $1.925 million, sold their fetchingly photogenic Malibu compound in June 2015 for $15 million to billionaire investor and philanthropist Sid Bass and just last month the Pacific Palisades mini-mansion she bought in July 2015 for $6 million and moved in to after they separated was sold to actor turned “Crazy Heart” writer/director/producer Scott Cooper for $7.575 million.

    I agree tbone that it is not as nice as the previous home, but perhaps it is strategic. Meaning they are simplifying their lives. Speaking of Serra Retreat, did Camille Grammer ever unload her pile of bricks there?

      …black topped driveway…” from the aerial appears to actually be the street/right-of-way the house sits on; good thing it’s a gated community.

      It is so aggressively bland, and they have a nice chunk of ready cash with the sale of the other two properties that I was thinking more along the line of teardown; but they’d have to snap up an adjoining property to make it worthwhile;

    wow compared to their original place in malibu this place looks like a complete POS…house is a pig with lipstick
