Chinese consumer electronics upstart LeEco will start selling its phones and TVs at Best Buy and Amazon in December, the company announced Tuesday. LeEco also announced a number of DirecTV Now promotions, giving consumers up to 12 months of complementary access to AT&T’s new online TV service.
LeEco officially launched in the U.S. in October, and began selling some of its TVs and phones to U.S. consumers via its website in recent weeks. Starting on December 1, the company will also sell on Amazon.com, BestBuy.com and Target.com as well as in 100 retail stores, including Best Buy and some wireless retailers.
LeEco didn’t specify who these wireless partners may be, but given the company’s partnership with AT&T, one could guess that the carrier could be in the mix. A LeEco spokesperson didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
It’s also worth noting that 100 stores is still a modest footprint. Best Buy alone has more than 1000 stores across the country.
The company began in China as the operator of an online video service, and has over the years branched out to add a variety of hardware products, services, and even a movie studio.
Key to LeEco’s business model is a service component; LeEco is looking to sell U.S. consumers a service plan dubbed EcoPass that will include access to premium video content as well as extended warranties and other services. LeEco is giving consumers that buy its phones and TVs free access to EcoPass for a limited time, but the company has yet to say how much it is eventually going to charge for the plan.
