Barlow has been crafting video games since his 1999 interactive-fiction title “Aisle.” After working as a game director at Climax Studios, he became an independent developer and last year released “Her Story,” a critically acclaimed interactive movie whose awards included winning best narrative at the 2015 Game Awards.

“Sam Barlow is the very best in the field of combining gaming and video to evolve a new kind of entertainment,” Interlude CEO Yoni Bloch said in announcing his hire. “We are very excited to have him join us to help envision the future of entertainment.”

Barlow said that when he saw Interlude’s projects and platform, “I felt that we were on the same journey… Our dream is personalized, reactive stories with a heightened emotional impact.”

Interlude’s investors include MGM, Intel Capital, Warner Music Group, Samsung, Sequoia Capital, NEA, Marker and Innovation Endeavors. The company is based in New York City with additional offices in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Los Angeles.
