Amazon Studios is adding “I Love Dick,” a highbrow comedy from “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway, to its next slate of pilots.

Adapted from Chris Kraus’ psycho-sexual novel of the same name, “I Love Dick” is about a struggling married couple, Chris and Sylvere, and their mutual obsession with an off-putting — but charismatic — professor named Dick. The story, set in a colorful academic community in Marfa, Texas, is told in “Rashomon”-style shifting points of view, according to Amazon.

The half-hour pilot for “I Love Dick” is produced by Jill Soloway and Andrea Sperling’s newly formed company, Topple Productions, under an overall deal with Amazon Studios. Soloway’s first project for Amazon was “Transparent,” the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning dramedy starring Jeffrey Tambor.

“I Love Dick” is written by Sarah Gubbins and directed by Soloway. Amazon’s pickup of the pilot was previously reported by Deadline.com.

Last summer, Amazon renewed “Transparent” for a third season, which went into production earlier this month. Amazon hasn’t set a release date for the third season of the acclaimed show, centered on a transgender parent coming out to her family and the clan’s dysfunctional dynamics.
