Murdoch, chairman of 21st Century Fox and News Corp., and Hall announced their engagement with a small item that ran Tuesday in the Times of London, the newspaper owned by News Corp., in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section.
Hall, 59, is the former wife of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. She has recently appeared on the London stage in productions of “Bus Stop” and “The Graduate.” She was a contestant in the 2012 edition of U.K. competition series “Strictly Come Dancing.”
Murdoch, 84, has been married three times, most recently to Wendi Deng from 1999 to 2014. Murdoch and Hall were introduced by Murdoch’s niece, Penny Fowler, in Australia.
“Mr Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger are delighted to announce their engagement.”
A Fox spokeswoman confirmed the news. “They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future together,” the company said in a statement.
Murdoch’s re-marriage could potentially have implications for his corporate empire although it’s highly likely that the couple would establish a pre-nuptial agreement.
Murdoch’s engagement comes six months after he initiated a generational leadership transition in handing the reins of Fox and News Corp. to his sons, James and Lachlan. James became CEO of 21st Century Fox, reporting to his father; Lachlan is co-chairman of Fox and News Corp. alongside his father.
The Texas-born Hall gained fame in the 1970s as a supermodel. She was divorced from Jagger in 1999 after more than 20 years together.
