Variety Wins Four Awards at 58th

Variety was honored with four awards at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 58th SoCal Journalism Awards on Sunday night.

The team of senior film and media writer Brent Lang and senior film writer Jim Rainey won magazine personality profile for their story “New Sony Chief Tom Rothman on His Plan to Get the Studio Back in the Game.”

Chris Mihal, creative director; Bailey Franklin, director of photography; and photographer Billy Kidd won in the portrait photo category for a photo of Emmy winner Jeffrey Tambor.

Mihal and art director Chuck Kerr won for editorial cartoon for their cover illustration of Rothman.

Mihal also won magazine design for the issue “Oscar’s Big Week.”

The Los Angeles Press Club Awards were held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. E! Entertainment Television founder Jarl Mohn, photographer Nick Ut, environmentalist and public betterment activist Erin Brockovich and journalist Jason Rezaian received special honors.
