“The UnReal,” Lifetime’s well-reviewed scripted behind-the-scenes look at a television dating show, opened to soft ratings Monday.

According to same-night Nielsen estimates, 10 p.m. drama “UnReal” averaged a 0.29 rating in adults 18-49 and 815,000 viewers overall in the 10 o’clock hour. By comparison, lead-in “Devious Maids” did a 0.53 rating and 1.46 million viewers overall.

“Unreal,” which generated mostly favorable reviews, appeared scheduled to take advantage of spillover audience from ABC’s “The Bachelorette,” which airs from 8 to 10 p.m. and delivered more good ratings results last night (1.9 rating in 18-49, 6.52 million viewers overall).

Over the weekend, Lifetime’s original two-part movie “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe” delivered ho-hum ratings. It bowed with a 0.50 rating in 18-49 and 2.31 million total viewers on Saturday and then averaged a 0.51 and 2.05 million on Sunday.

So glad to have come across Unreal. I was looking for a summer show to hook me in and this nailed it. I’m pulled in by the Everlasting storyline and the lives of the producers. More please!

The cast is incredible! The writing is smart and I can’t wait to watch more.

  3. Shaun Daily says:

Unreal surprisingly reeled me in. So much that I watched it the three times they ran it. I do hope the DVR numbers and positive word of mouth helps this inventive and original series. Congratulations to Lifetime.
