Oliver Queen’s masked alter-ego is upgrading his look for season four of CW’s superhero series “Arrow.”
The new look was debuted by series star Stephen Amell on Saturday at Warner Bros. Television’s Saturday Night DC block. It’s meant to be an upgrade to the crime fighter’s trademark leather, hooded vigilante gear that was originally designed by Colleen Atwood.
This version comes from the show’s resident costume designer, Maya Mani, who also created the suits for fellow heroes Arsenal (Colton Haynes), Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), Speedy (Willa Holland) and Ray Palmer’s A.T.O.M. (Brandon Routh).
The new duds weren’t the only things the “Arrow” crew had in store for fans. The Comic-Con panel also revealed that two more DC Comics characters were on the way to Starling City; Mister Terrific, who will appear as a friend and coworker for Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and the show’s first gay character, and Anarky, an antagonist from the Batman mythos.
Diggle (David Ramsey) will finally be getting a costume in season four — including a mask — and the show will take advantage of Oliver’s newfound happiness with Felicity by adding a little more humor. “We get to have Oliver make some jokes in the lair, which is a first,” noted exec producer Wendy Mericle.
As Amell notes in the video above, the series is further embracing its comic book roots by pushing Oliver closer to his Green Arrow persona, along with the evolution of Starling City to Star City.
“Arrow” returns for its fourth season on Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
