CBS’ ‘Supergirl’ Adds ‘Super’ Alums Dean Cain and Helen Slater

'Supergirl': Dean Cain and Helen Slater

CBS’ “Supergirl” pilot has added “Super” veterans Dean Cain and Helen Slater to its cast in top-secret roles, Variety has confirmed.

Slater starred as Kara, the titular heroine, in 1984 movie “Supergirl” (the character will be played in the CBS pilot by Melissa Benoist), while Cain portrayed the Man of Steel/Clark Kent in ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” Both guest-starred on Superman origin series “Smallville,” with Slater appearing as Clark’s Kryptonian birth mother Lara, and Cain playing Dr. Curtis Knox.

Details on their “Supergirl” roles were not announced, but they join a cast that also includes Laura Benanti, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Calista Flockhart and Mechad Brooks.

News of Slater’s and Cain’s casting was first reported by Variety sister site TVLine.

  2. Spider says:

Cool! This is the equivalent of what producer Greg Berlanti did with the casting for the new “Flash” show, by hiring original ‘Flash’ show’s, John Wesley Shipp and Amanda Pays. Not only is this respectful of the original shows, but it is also fandom. Good job, Berlanti.

Just keeps getting worse and worse

    • Reid Mason says:

You have a very twisted idea of “worse and worse” if you’re getting angry over Superman franchise alums having guest roles on this show. By all rights, this is a sign of how much love and respect the showrunners have for the Superman legacy.

But by all means, continue to whine and complain about absolutely nothing at all. All you’re doing is proving the negative stereotypes about fandom to be gross understatements.
