Syfy’s “Sharknado 3” has been hit with a strike as members of the production crew have walked off the job in order to unionize.
Picketing began Tuesday morning outside the Burbank-based offices of “Sharknado 3” production.
The action was organized by the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees including the Motion Picture Editors Guild, which operates as Local 700.
“The Editors Guild instructs members and prospective members not to render services on this production during the strike,” the union said.
Syfy was not immediately available for comment.
The third installment of the “Sharknado” saga brings back Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. Mark Cuban and Ann Coulter will play the president and vice president of the United States.
Syfy announced in January that the third installment of the pop culture sensation would premiere on Syfy this July and be set in Washington, D.C., with sharks causing massive destruction in the nation’s capital before heading down the East Coast.
