Rosie Perez Doesn’t Know if ‘The View’ Has Anything Special Planned for Her Last Show

At Monday’s “Southpaw” premiere, Rosie Perez opened up about her upcoming departure from “The View,” saying she wasn’t certain anything special was planned for her send-off.

“I kind of said my goodbye,” said Perez. “I don’t know what the show is going to do, if they’re going to do anything.”

Perez became teary earlier this month, when she told the daytime talk show’s audience that she was leaving the Hot Topics table. But telling her co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Nicolle Wallace was even more difficult, she said.

“It took me a long time to dial Nicolle’s number and even longer to dial Whoopi’s number, but I knew I had to tell them first before I told the rest of the crew,” Perez said. “Whoopi actually made it easier. She’s like, ‘Do what you got to do, baby.'”

Her last show is scheduled to air on Aug. 6.

Perez’s contract status at the daytime talk show has been intensely scrutinized for months after Variety reported in January that “View” producers were unhappy with her work and might fire the co-host. ABC temporarily backtracked on those plans. However, they are shaking up the panel at the daytime talk show by bringing in fresh blood in the form of former Disney Channel star Raven Symone, comedian Michelle Collins and two other yet-to-be-announced names.

Perez maintains that the choice to leave the show was hers, and that she is excited to concentrate on her acting career.

“It was just time,” she said. “I woke up and I told my husband, ‘It’s time.’ It was that simple.”

Perez seemed to struggle to find her place alongside such strong personalities as Goldberg and former co-host Rosie O’Donnell, but said she felt more comfortable during her final months in the job.

“I felt like I came into my own on the show,” she said. “I felt confident and secure just being myself. Maybe that was part of the reason. I was like, I mastered this, I’m doing good, now let me see what else I can do.”

  1. I am very sorry to see Rosie Perez leave the view. I think that she is a great commentator and added much to the show. I enjoyed her contributions, she was well informed.

  2. R. Anderson says:

I stopped watching “The View” when Rosie Perez and Nicolle came on board. They were both sarcastic and perpetually angry. I didn’t mind when Whoopi, Joy, or Sherri got into it about certain things. It was at least heart-felt and authentic. However, Nicolle seemed simply judgmental and Perez seemed angry and childishly forceful and opinionated about every subject. The mix just hasn’t worked for me and at the end of the show, I just felt as though there was unfinished thoughts with no resolve at the end. Looks like I was right. I’m glad Sherri is coming back. Hope they can get Joy Behar, too. She was terrific in her own salty way.

  3. M Roy says:

I watched the show from the beginning & I enjoyed it so much til you added the last 2 & did away with Rosie & Nicole( even though I’m no conservative) I welcomed her views, now the show is just going to be a tabloid view, feel sorry for Whopping as she’s the only credible one on there, sorry you lost me.

  4. pamela Conner says:

I think it’s a shame I love Nicolle Wallace at least she can speak. won’t watch now that she is leaving.

  5. Lily2424 says:

This show should have been off the air long ago. Think what you will about Trump but for that idiot, Perez to talk about how the office of the presidency is very serious and not a joke yet we have the biggest clown in office now! Smh

  6. Jimmy Green says:

the view has been blind for years. cackling clowns pretending to know something.

  7. dee says:

you’re basically are saying she’s lying… she obviously decided to leave and was not fired. which makes 2 of the three new hosts quitting and one (nicole) getting fired. that says more about the management structure over there than anything else.

  8. David4 says:

The View has now had a bigger cast than all the Law and Order shows combined.
