Ratings: ‘Shark Tank,’ ‘Blue Bloods’ Top Friday; NBC’s ‘Blindspot’ Big in Delayed Viewing

ABC won Friday’s ratings race in key demos behind an improving “Shark Tank” and slightly lower but still-solid demo scores for its comedies “Last Man Standing” and “Dr. Ken.” In the battle of multi-cam half-hours, ABC’s easily bested NBC’s “Undateable” and “Truth Be Told,” which were both down in their second week together.

NBC had better news on Saturday morning from Nielsen’s “live plus-3” estimates for last Monday, which showed the second biggest lift of the season for newbie “Blindspot.” The action crime drama was again the No. 1 rookie series in adults 18-49 in last week’s “live plus-3” estimates..

Looking at Friday’s numbers, “Last Man Standing” (1.2 rating in 18-49/5 share in adults 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and “Dr. Ken” (1.2/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) were both down a tick in the demo from last week but tied with CBS’ “Blue Bloods” as the night’s No. 1 scripted program in 18-49. “Dr. Ken,” which has been picked up for the full season, was up week to week in total viewers, while veteran “Last Man Standing” drew its largest overall crowd since last February.

Shark Tank,” which has been listless this fall, edged up last night in 18-49 (1.5/6) while drawing its second biggest total-viewer number of the season. And “20/20” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall) had another solid showing at 10.

Over at NBC, “Undateable” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall) was down 0.2 from last week and 0.1 below its hourlong season premiere on Oct. 9. NBC announced Friday that the rest of the season, starting with last night, would be shot live on both coasts.

It was followed by the second week of “Truth Be Told” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall), which was 0.1 lower than its low premiere. In live+3 ratings for its premiere, “Truth” retained 88% of “Undateable” in 18-49 (0.95 vs. 1.08), up from the roughly 80% retention its saw in same-day numbers. The soft ratings in the 8 o’clock hour seem to be affecting “Dateline” from 9 to 11 p.m. (0.9./3 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall), though it was able to maintain last week’s rating. Starting next week, drama “Grimm” will serve as the newsmagazine’s lead-in.

CBS was fairly steady, with “The Amazing Race” (1.1/5 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) at the same demo rating for a third straight week. “Hawaii Five-0” was down a tenth (1.0/4 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) while “Blue Bloods” was up slightly (1.2/4 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall). The Tom Selleck drama was Friday’s No. 1 scripted broadcast series in 18-49 (tied) and 25-54 (1.8/5) while again ruling as the night’s most-watched program overall.

Fox aired coverage of the sixth and final game of baseball’s American League Championship Series, which averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 2 million viewers overall on the net’s stations from 8 to 11. The network’s coverage of the World Series between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals begins next Tuesday.

In L+3 numbers for last Monday, NBC’s “Blindspot” spiked 74% in 18-49 rating (3.68 from a 2.12 in same-day) and by 4.4 million viewers overall (7.8 million to 12.2 million). The increase of 1.56 in 18-49 rating is “Blindspot’s” second biggest lift to date, behind the +1.60 rise for its second episode.

As a result of the large delayed-viewing spike, “Blindspot” saw its 18-49 decline shrink from 15% in same-day (2.12 vs. 2.48) to just 4% in L+3 (3.68 vs. 3.83). And in total viewers, the decline shrank from -7% in same-day (7.82 million vs. 8.45 million) to -3% in L+3 (12.22 million vs. 12.58 million).

Another rookie, CBS comedy “Life in Pieces,” hit a four-week high in L+3 demo rating (2.61), while CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” matched its premiere score in week 2 (0.33).
