Ratings: ‘NCIS,’ ‘Agents of SHIELD’ Hit Season Lows Opposite ‘The Voice’

UPDATE: In updated national estimates from Nielsen, NBC’s “The Voice” was revised up 0.2 from its prelim score to finish at a 3.8 rating/12 share in adults 18-49 while drawing 13.73 million viewers overall.

Gaining a tenth in the nationals were ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” (1.6/6 in 18-49, 5.08 million viewers overall) and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 3.80 million viewers overall), with the latter now matching its low after setting it outright in the prelims.  “SHIELD” also enjoyed easily its closest finish relative to CBS’ “NCIS: New Orleans” in 18-49 (1.5 vs. 1.6).

CBS dramas “NCIS” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 16.22 million viewers overall) and “Person of Interest” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 8.67 million viewers overall) were revised up a tenth. “NCIS: New Orleans” held at its low, but joined its sked partners by packing on some total viewers (rising to 12.61 million).

NBC rolled Tuesday in key demos behind a dominant “The Voice” and “Chicago Fire,” while Daylight Saving Time seemed to sap viewers away from the “NCIS” dramas on CBS and ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” all of which hit season lows.

“NCIS: New Orleans” and “Agents of SHIELD” should be able to bounce back some in the coming weeks as NBC shifts from “The Voice” to comedies in the 9 o’clock hour.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “The Voice” averaged a 3.6 rating/12 share in adults 18-49 and 13.3 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m., outperforming CBS and ABC combined in the demo. Though down about 10% from last week’s strong score, “The Voice” was up a bit from its hourlong rating on the comparable night a year ago (3.5).

Chicago Fire” kept the Peacock on top at 10 p.m. (2.1/7 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall), matching last week’s score as the show’s best since Nov. 11.

Elsewhere, CBS’ “NCIS” (2.1/7 in 18-49, 15.7 million viewers overall) placed second in demos at 8 p.m., but was down 0.2 from its prior original to hit a season low. The already renewed “NCIS: New Orleans” followed with a season low of its own (1.6/5 in 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall), down 0.3 and delivering a lower rating than the previous night’s “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.8) for the first time. “Person of Interest” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) was down 0.3 from its most recent original and matched its season low.

At ABC, “Fresh Off the Boat” continued its gradual decline (1.5/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) but the net still has to be pleased with its performance leading off the night. “Repeat After Me” also was down a bit more behind it (1.1/4 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall), and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) was down 0.2 from last week’s return to set a low. (“SHIELD” is close to rounding up to a 1.5 so it may be able to avoid an outright low in the nationals.)

Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” was down a tick in its second week (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall). It was followed by a repeat “New Girl” (0.7/2 in 18-49, 1.5 million viewers overall) and new “The Mindy Project” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 1.8 million viewers overall). Fox seems to be saving originals of “New Girl” to lead in to new comedy “Weird Loners,” which bows March 31.

CW’s “The Flash” (0.4/1 in 18-49, 1.3 million viewers overall) and “Supernatural” (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.8 million viewers overall) were both repeats.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 3.1/10; CBS, 1.7/5; ABC, 1.2/4; Univision, 1.1/4; Fox, 1.0/3; Telemundo, 0.6/2; CW, 0.3/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 12.2 million; NBC, 11.7 million; ABC, 3.7 million; Univision, 3.1 million; Fox, 2.5 million; Telemundo, 1.4 million; CW, 1.0 million.
