The Bachelorette” capped a strong season Monday with a finale night that came in about 15% higher than last year and helped ABC cruise to victory in key demos. Also of note was series highs by CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” which drew the network’s largest Monday audience in nearly six years.

In Nielsen’s “live plus same-day” estimates, the two-hour season ender of “The Bachelorette” averaged a season-high 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall, up about 33% from last week’s “The Men Tell All” special (1.8) and 20% higher than the show’s season average in the demo (2.0). The post-show “After the Final Rose” delivered similar numbers in the 10 o’clock hour (2.4/8 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall).

Overall, the night averaged a 2.4 rating in 18-49, 14% higher than last year’s 2.1 and the best for a summer Monday on ABC since the 2013 “Bachelorette” finale in August of that year.

Elsewhere, NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” held up well (1.9/7 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall), down a bit from last week’s season high but about average despite the tough “Bachelorette” competition. It was the No. 2 series of the night in 18-49 and No. 1 among all programs in men 18-49 (1.9/7). And “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” was up, posting its best scores in three airings this summer (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall).

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” fell to a season low (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall), but CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” hit series highs (0.7/3 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) pending updates that could include local pre-emptions. If it stands in the nationals, this would be CW’s top demo score in Monday’s leadoff hour since “The Originals” in February, and its largest overall audience there since “One Tree Hill” in December 2009.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 2.4/8; NBC, 1.7/6; CBS and Fox, 0.8/3; Telemundo, 0.7/3; Univision, 0.7/2; CW, 0.5/2.

In total viewers: ABC, 8.0 million; NBC, 5.5 million; CBS, 4.9 million; Fox, 2.8 million; Univision, 1.9 million; CW and Telemundo, 1.8 million.

  1. Jack Hadley says:

    Hey Rox,
If you are so in love with Nick, why don’t you go find him and ask him out?
Maybe you should go watch some porn. Then maybe you would not be such an idiot!

  2. Rox says:

I guess people like watching porn….the fact that the producers aired kaitlyn having sex is nothing more than soft porn. I compare this season to that of jerry springer. What a classless lady (if I can call her that). Shawn is a horrible human being…..they both take pleasure in someone else’s pain. The only way I will ever consider watching this pathetic show again is if they cast nick as the next bachelor. He is gorgeous and a genuine person. Shawn was unable to back up the reasons why he hated nick….although everyone knows it was pure jealousy. Kaitlyn and shawn will get what they deserve, and nick will end up with someone that loves him for who he is! I am a canadian and am ashamed that this self absorbed superficial woman is from the same place as I.

  3. SJ says:

    Shame on you S…hrek, K
is a good actress, but is she a good companion????????is it the size, that drawn her to choose shrek??????

  4. SJ says:

I am so angry at this little sniky actress K was all the way.Pretending she liked Nick and putting his new fiancé in ridiculous after sleeping with the other contestant SHAME ON YOU, Sean is a Shreck, how could you do this to NICK, WHO I THINK WILL NOT GET into a possible abusive relationship as I think could w/your tasteless pick.!!!!!!!,I am so sad and disappointed of the program, not excited to watch it anymore, after 12 years+

  5. I HAVE DOUBT says:

The Bachelorette Finale numbers gave ABC complete domination and annihilation of the competition last night. Wasn’t expecting her to pick the muscle butt HOTTIE over the weasel she slept with midway through the season, but S U R PR I S E!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (lol). Unfortunately for Shaun he may find himself looking over his shoulder, rummaging through her purse for signs of cheating, and checking her cell phone for in-coming calls from time to time. Hopefully she’s not a habitual cheater, but ……
