Telemundo’s news show “Noticiero Telemundo” will air a special edition that will be shot on mobile devices, making the NBCUniversal-owned network the first national network to air news stories via smartphones and tablets. Journalists will record and file the stories on mobile devices, anchors will be shot on both studio cameras and mobile devices.

“We are changing the way news is made by embracing all aspects of digital technology,” said Luis Carlos Velez, Telemundo’s exec VP of network news. “Smartphones and tablets have become increasingly popular ways to get informed. We want to maximize their utilization by adding to our groundbreaking storytelling.”

Telemundo will stream its broadcast on Periscope and utilize other social-media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram throughout the newscast as journalists equipped with smartphones and tablets will capture and feed their stories.

The digital edition of the broadcast nationally July 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Telemundo recently launched two recurring segments that use mobile devices: “The Selfie Interview,” in which the guests ask and respond to their own questions, and “Mi Lente,” in which characters are profiled using portable cameras.
