Monday Ratings: ‘The Voice’ Tops While ‘Night Shift’ Slips

NBC has won another Monday in key demos behind “The Voice,” the top show of the night, but its “The Night Shift” took a step back after rallying to a season high one week earlier. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” edged up and remained the most-watched program overall.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “The Voice” averaged a 3.2 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 11.7 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m., down a smidge from last week but again the dominant program on the night in all under-55 categories. The net’s momentum stalled there, though, as “The Night Shift” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall) fell 0.2 or 0.3 (depending on where it lands in the nationals) one week after matching its best score since last summer’s series premiere. The medical drama was up from its special Tuesday airing (1.0 in 18-49, 4.03 million viewers overall), which aired behind comedies.

ABC, which ran second on Monday in demos while winning easily in total viewers, was paced by “Dancing With the Stars” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 13.5 million viewers overall), which was up a tick from last week to match its premiere score of two weeks ago; it placed second in demos to “The Voice” from 8 to 10. And at 10 p.m., “Castle” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) was up a tenth week to week to catch CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” for the timeslot lead in 18-49.

The CBS lineup was down a bit across the board, starting with “2 Broke Girls” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and “Mike & Molly” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall), both of which shed a tenth and ranked third in their timeslots. “Scorpion” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall) was down two tenths to hit its low (though it could round up to a 2.0, which it has logged on multiple occasions), and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall) was down a tick but was the 10 o’clock hour’s leader in 18-49 and 25-54 (both tied with “Castle”) as well as total viewers.

At Fox, a repeat “Gotham” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 1.9 million viewers overall) was followed by “The Following” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.2 million viewers overall), which was down from the 1.2 it did in the 9 o’clock hour last week. The Kevin Bacon drama should get a boost next in a couple of weeks when “Gotham” returns with its final batch of originals.

CW aired repeats of “The Originals” (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall) and “Jane the Virgin” (0.1/0 in 18-49, 0.4 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 2.5/8; ABC, 1.9/6; CBS, 1.7/5; Univision, 1.0/3; Fox, 0.8/3; Telemundo, 0.5/2; CW, 0.1/0.

In total viewers: ABC, 11.8 million; NBC, 9.6 million; CBS, 8.6 million; Univision, 2.7 million; Fox, 2.6 million; Telemundo, 1.4 million; CW, 0.5 million.
