ABC’s “The Bachelorette” remained Monday’s top series among young adults, but “American Ninja Warrior” and a solid return from “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” enabled NBC to earn a share of the night’s demo lead. Also of note was the best Monday of the season for the CW, led by “Penn & Teller: Fool Us.”

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) was the broadcast demo leader at 10 p.m. in its season premiere, topping every episode of previous timeslot occupant, “The Island,” another series featuring Grylls. “Running Wild” came within a 10th of its year-ago premiere, when it kicked off Mondays. Last night, it had a potent lead-in from “American Ninja Warrior” (1.7/6 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall), which was down a tick from last week and again led all broadcast series in male demos.

ABC’s “The Bachelorette” (1.9/7 in 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall) eased a 10th from last week, when its episode hit a summer high in Live+3 rating (2.6); it was Monday’s No. 1 program in 18-49, 18-34 (1.7/7) and all female demos. Lead-out drama “The Whispers” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) had a good week, up 21% week to week (0.93 vs. 0.77) for its best score in three outings.

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.2 million viewers overall) was down a 10th from last week to match its season low.
