Deal comes after NBC, Univision dropped plans to broadcast pageant after Trump's comments on immigrants

Donald Trump has found a TV home for his Miss USA beauty pageant with cable network Reelz, after both NBC and Univision Communications bailed on plans to air the program following the mogul’s remarks about Latino immigrants.

The pact is a small victory for Trump, who in the past week has lost his deals with NBC, Univision and Macy’s. The companies cut their ties to the real-estate developer, GOP presidential hopeful and erstwhile TV personality after he called Mexican and other Hispanic immigrants “killers and rapists” who are “bringing crime” into the U.S. in a speech.

“The decision on the part of Reelz to acquire the rights to the Miss USA Pageant was based on our belief that this special event, and the women who compete in it, are an integral part of American tradition,” Reelz CEO Stan E. Hubbard said in a statement. “As one of only a few independent networks, we decided to exercise our own voice and committed ourselves to bringing this pageant to American viewers everywhere.”

Reelz, in announcing the pickup, did not address Trump’s controversial remarks. Trump has filed a lawsuit against Univision demanding $500 million in the wake of the media company’s decision to drop Miss USA; Univision called the lawsuit “factually false and legally ridiculous.”

In addition to the loss of its previous broadcast partners, two NBC-affliated personalities — Cheryl Burke and MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts — withdrew from their roles as co-hosts of the Miss USA pageant. Currently, Miss USA lists Jeannie Mai, a fashion expert and stylist who has appeared on NBC’s “Today” and other TV programs, as hosting the 2015 pageant.

The 54th annual Miss USA pageant will air on Reelz on Sunday, July 12, starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, live from Baton Rouge, La.

The Miss Universe Organization, which runs the Miss USA pageant, said on Tuesday the event would be live-streamed on its website following the NBC and Univision pullouts. The company, a joint venture between Trump and NBCUniversal, also owns the Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA pageants.

According to Reelz, the network is distributed to 70 million U.S. homes via DirecTV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-verse channels and smaller cable operators. The independent network, based in Albuquerque, N.M., is focused on entertainment and reality programming, with shows including “The Kennedys,” “Hollywood Hillbillies,” “Beverly Hills Pawn” and “Hollywood Scandals.”

First off, NBC is reporting false info as usual, because they cannot function within the boundaries of the truth. Trump did NOT comment on Mxican immigrants, he commented on ILLEGAL immigrants and he spoke the truth, like the sound of it or not. Everyone knows Mexico’s Gov sponsors and passes out literature that explains to their citizens how exactly to enter America illegally. All who step over our border wthout proper passage, are criminals, thus Trump was right. And the U.S. murders, rapes and prison population proves much of what he said. If NBC and FOX are not aware of this literature distribution, then they are not News Networks worth bothering with. They obviously have another agenda, and it is NOT to inform the Public of the truth.

Second, NBC could care less about Women and their rights, even though Fox and NBC have insisted Trump has no respect for women. If NBC cared about women they would NOT drop this most important event for those 60 women involved. Some of those women have devoted their entire lives to preparing for this event, and now NBC and Fox have taken that away from them. Trump does NOT solely own the USA pageants, he is only partial owner. He was working to give women a change at a career and education through these pageants, while NBC and FOX decided to take those opportunities away from the women, because of something not even connected to the event. Like Trump or not, these Women in the pageant have done nothing, and do not deserve this treatment from NBC and FOX.

Shame on NBC and Shame on FOX…. You pretend to speak for ALL women, but you don’t. I am a woman and YOU, not Trump, have disrespected ME and all those women involved in the pageant, by insulting our intelligence in making up our own minds about matters such as these.

The news media reports the story it wants to report. It’s been looking for a way to savage Trump and now’s the opportunity. What isn’t being reported is that NBC has separated Trump from Celebrity Apprentice and will be seeking a new host.

  3. If you call having a major American event dropped by a major American network NBC for an independent channel nobody has hardly heard of a victory, I’m shaking my head over here. Essentially this means the window of opportunity to publicly apologize and potentially repair his relationship with NBC is now closed. What about Macy’s? For a guy who wants to be POTUS he can’t even resolve a network TV conflict and brand relationships he’s maintained for years–but he thinks he can run the country? pfffff

  4. Mr. Trump said “Illegal immigrants” not “immigrants” can no one do their reporting job correctly? This failure to report what was said correctly is what stirs up the hate in this country and you are nothing more than part of the problem. If I am for Mr. Trump or not if you can’t report correctly you shouldn’t be doing the job if you are just going to spread hate in this country and make things worse.

    • damon says:

Apparently you are failing to report correctly also.. He didn’t say immigrants or illegal immigrants in his presidential speech. He said “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

And pay special attention to the “Mexico is sending” part, in which he is stating that Mexico is purposely sending only the bad people. Mexico, as a country, isn’t sending anyone illegally over the border. Also notice he didn’t say he “assumed” they were sending them, he only “assumed” that some of them are good people.

He has no evidence to back up this claims. In fact, are existing reports stating that is no correlation of immigration effecting violent crime rates.

So i’d say the hate has not been stirred up by false reporting, but from actual facts and quotes of exactly what he said. And as far as spreading hate, Trumps own comments seem to do that just fine.

I don’t want to buy products made with child labor. I don’t want to support companies who poison the world and take advantage of their employees, and I don’t want to support a network that knowingly gets in bed with a very loud and public racist. Now Reelz will forever be remembered as that network that teamed up with the racist. Check out the their page on Facebook. It’s like dropping into a hate group page. Not the best first impression and probably not the best long term business decision.

  6. WL says:

Go for it Donald. I’m getting to like him better all the time. Those twits at NBC and Univision deserve to take the real hit $$. I’ve never heard of Reelz before but I have now. I usually don’t bother watching these beauty pagents, but I’ve marked this one on my calendar. There is a price to pay for speaking the truth. Donald has the guts to stick with his convictions. We haven’t had a president with those guts since Reagan.

  7. A little sore at leaving ? Those pageants have never been trashy.

  8. Stella says:

Trashy pageant on a trashy station owned by a trashy man.

  9. 007nightowl says:

Cool. It’s nice that The Donald doesn’t have to answer to the dweeb suits who run the networks on inflated salaries. Sue the dummies who broke the contract and then buy another network. Simple. He’s so rich, he doesn’t have to answer to anyone. So? In some ways he’s the perfect politician. Say what you will about his views – he can’t be bought – the biggest of all political sins.

Can’t say that about Hillary nor her Billy-Bob now can you?

  10. Lu Ami says:

Support, what a wonderful decision. American people don’t have to think alike even if it is the “WILL” of the President

  11. tereleon52 says:

Thank you REELZ for supporting the right to FREE SPEECH, without RETALIATION> Regardless.
I will be watching this SHOW< for the first time, YOU BET

  12. Oh, thank god. For a second I thought Trump was going to have to deal with actual consequences for opening his mouth. Thank you Reelz, for understanding that the real victims here were the dozen or so viewers of this timeless and important pageant.

Also, I trust any company that replaces an S with a Z. That’s just good sense.

  13. newtemplar says:

Reelz: “…focused on entertainment and reality programming…”, a.k.a. video-based crap distributor. This network doesn’t appear to be visible to Comcast users, which are still a large audience group. The Donald tends to win eventually, so keep this file open! ;)

  14. gerald neale says:

Glad to hear that there are more then one person with balls in our country. It seems that we Americans have to tip toe around offending new comers to our country while the new comers say anything they please. I just got ripped off by Century Link Latino employees who sold me TV Phone and Internet over the phone quoting me $90 and billing me over $270 plus. The woman on the phone took a hour of my time putting me on hold so she could get permission to waive fees etc. I asked for phone service so I’d have it for a 911 emergency and am billed $90 a month. The Latino installer didn’t install things right and I needed service calls twice in a week to get my internet and prism TV to work. BTW I’m 73 and added the TV and Phone to what used to be a $12 internet bill from Century Link. Not only are the really bad people coming here to rip us off but the hard working Latino’s are getting a piece of our bank accounts. Close that border and show the Miss USA.

    • Bill B. says:

He has balls, but that does not mean he has the qualifications, to put it mildly, to be President. Lotsa people have balls, but we don’t want them to be President either.

  15. guest says:

Leave it to Mr. Pointergate to pick up after Donald.
