Fox Gives Pilot Greenlight to ‘Minority Report’

Fox has given its first formal pilot order for the 2015-16 development cycle to “Minority Report,” a drama designed to be a sequel to the 2002 Steven Spielberg pic that starred Tom Cruise.

The project from Spielberg’s Amblin TV is set 10 years after the film’s “precrime” in Washington, D.C.

Max Borenstein (“Godzilla”) is writing and exec producing with Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Drama vet Kevin Falls has signed on as showrunner and exec producer.

The drama centers on one of three “precogs” who’s struggling to lead a normal life because he’s haunted by visions of the future. He may find a purpose to his gift after meeting a detective haunted by her past.

Twentieth Century Fox TV and Paramount TV are partnering on the series adaptation, as both studios were involved in the original film.

Fox landed “Minority Report” with a hefty commitment after the project stirred interest at several networks.

In September, Fox gave an early pilot order to “Runner,” a mythology-heavy drama based on a Turkish format about a woman living a double life. The same month the network gave a straight-to-series order to a horror-comedy project from Ryan Murphy, “Scream Queens.”
