Following its first season, the trailer hints that the stakes are high for characters in 1940s Los Alamos, N.M., during the development of nuclear weapons. The trailer also provides a first-look at new cast members William Petersen (“CSI”) as Col. Emmett Darrow and Neve Campbell (“Scream”) as the “first lady of Los Alamos,” Kitty Oppenheimer.
Created by “Masters of Sex” writer Sam Shaw and directed by “The West Wing’s” Thomas Schlamme, the series also stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Rachel Brosnahan and Mamie Gummer. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television, Skydance Television and Tribune Studios.
“This second season is all organized around an event and, kind of, uncannily and accidentally,” Shaw teased in July at the show’s Television Critics Association panel at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. “It’s an event with a lot of resonance right now. This year is the 70th anniversary of the first atomic detonation and also, of course, the bombings in Japan. So the entire second season is really organized around the Trinity Test, the detonation of the world’s first atomic weapon. And I think, at a story level, it’s a season that takes a bunch of characters who have not been tested and puts all of them to the test, challenges all of their ideas about who they are and what the meaning of the work they are doing is.”
