The aliens have landed.

Comedy Central has ordered the animated series “Jeff and Some Aliens.”

The series follows average guy Jeff and his three alien “roommates” who were sent to study him to determine if humankind should be destroyed. This includes forcing Jeff to participate in grueling intergalatic decathalons and perform Azurian honor killings to restore interstellar balance.

Thus, Comedy Central president of original programming Kent Alterman made a valid point when he announced the news on Wednesday and said “it would be so weird if this show wasn’t animated.”

“Jeff and Some Aliens” is exec produced and created by Sean Donnelly and Alessandro Minoli and exec produced by ShadowMachine’s Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley. The show is based on sketches that appeared on Comedy Central’s satirical animated shorts series “TripTank.”

“We’d like to beat the trolls to the punch and be the first to say: ‘They cancelled ‘Futurama’ for THIS?!,'” said Donnelly and Minoli, referencing the Matt Groening-created animated series that also involved aliens and an everyman and also spent some time on Comedy Central.

The 10-episode season of”Jeff and Some Aliens” will premiere in 2016. It is produced by ShadowMachine. Monika Zielinska and Ian Friedman are the executives in charge of production for Comedy Central.

  1. While trip tank has a bunch of mini-shows Jeff and some aliens would prob be the best to transfer to a standalone show. Suck it Gary is brilliant as shorts but would die on it’s own and I think i’m probably the only person who wants a Ricky the Rocketship show.

It will be interesting to see if season two can match (or exceed) the lofty achievements of season one. Perhaps the important thing to know is, despite these shifts, Outlander remains as sweeping and addictive as ever, which goes a long way.
