Murder Town,” a legal drama to be exec produced by star Jada Pinkett Smith, has landed at ABC as a put pilot, Variety has learned.

The potential series hails from A+E Studios and marks the first project to be sold to a network outside the A+E Networks portfolio.

Pinkett Smith will star as a beautiful and complicated prosecutor who makes history as Wilmington, Delaware’s first African-American District Attorney. She finds herself confronted by old loyalties and loves, a shocking revelation about her murdered husband and a polarizing, racially-charged case that threatens to burn her and her city to the ground.

Barry Schindel (“Intelligence,” “Numb3rs”) penned the pilot, which is based on an original script by Rob Fresco. “Murder Town” marks a reunion for the writer/producer and ABC, as he has worked on the network’s long-running crime drama “Castle.”

Schindel will exec produce with Pinkett Smith, plus Miguel Melendez. Overbrook Entertainment will produce with A+E Studios.

Pinkett Smith and Overbrook Entertainment are repped by Paradigm and attorney Jason Sloan. Schindel is repped by CAA and attorney Tom Hoberman.

  1. I am happy for Jada putting Wilmington Delaware on the map. It is sad that murder rate I’d high but long as it is blk on blk crime they will never get it under control lack of interest by police dept. Long as it is us killing us this will go on ,anyway I am elated she will be using city and state, we deserve it.

  2. Lynn says:

Here’s what’s most unfortunate, Wilmington is a city that has done a 180° in the last 15yrs due to geographical location for the east coast drug corridor, piss-poor public edcation system and indifferent-self serving political agendas. And to use this all too real pain of senseless, proportionally outrageous death toll is thoughtless and yet again self serving as making it glamourous will only compound the problem. But hey, all’s fair in money and fame, right?

  3. ktdailey says:

someone probably should’ve fact-checked this – there is no DA’s office in Wilmington, DE, or in the entire state. We just have an Attorney General’s office. But this character sort of sounds like Marilyn Mosby from Baltimore and she’s badass so I’ll watch!

  4. Louise Ransil says:

Smart concept for a smart lady. It will be good to see more of Jada on TV.

She always been a strong woman bless her !!!!
