Coogan’s character ponders this and other ethical questions as he searches for his life’s purpose on the new series, which also stars Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford.
“‘Happyish’ is about happiness and trying to find it,” explains creator Shalom Auslander in the video preview. “It happens to be about a guy who sells it for a living, and hates that he does.”
Philip Seymour Hoffman was originally slated to star in “Happyish” before his death, even shooting a pilot for the series with Hahn. Coogan stepped in to take over the lead role last October after Hoffman passed away. Hahn chose to remain with the show to star alongside Coogan, playing his long-suffering wife, whom Auslander describes as “fierce while funny, defiant while vulnerable.”
Auslander also wrote and exec produces the series. Ken Kwapis (“He’s Just Not That Into You”) serves as executive producer.
“Happyish” premieres Sunday, April 26, at at 9:30 p.m. on Showtime.
