“Game of Thrones” is filling out Samwell Tarly’s (John Bradley) family for season six.
“Da Vinci’s Demons” and “Downton Abbey” alum James Faulkner will play Samwell’s stern and strong-willed father, Randyll Tarly; “From Hell” actress Samantha Spiro will play Sam’s mother Melessa Tarly; and Rebecca Benson will play his sister Talla Tarly.
They’ll join previously announced “UnREAL” star Freddie Stroma, who’ll play Sam’s brother Dickon Tarly; Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy; Richard E. Grant and Ian McShane in unspecified roles; Essie Davis as an actress who plays a version of Cersei (Lena Headey) in a play; and Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven, taking over the role of Bran Stark’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) mentor.
“Game of Thrones” leads this year’s Emmy race with 24 nominations, including nods for Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and Diana Rigg.
Clarke recently spoke to Variety about her enthusiasm for the season six scripts, admitting, “I’m like a kid having a sugar high — I can’t handle how sick these scripts are. We actually got the next load in as well and they’re really good. You know that David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] are really happy with a script when in the stage directions they just add their own commentary like ‘yeah, right, b—-es, sixth season!’ There’s a lot of that.”
