Ian McShane will appear on the upcoming season of “Game of Thrones,” Variety has confirmed.

Details on McShane’s role are being kept under wraps, but he will play a key role in the season’s plot with a small amount of screen time, reports EW.

McShane’s stint in Westeros marks his return to HBO, home to his celebrated role on “Deadwood.”

Production on season six of “GOT” has commenced, with the 10 episodes expected to air in spring of 2016.

McShane is repped by ICM in the U.S. and Independent Talent Group in the U.K., along with Gallant Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

  1. Becki says:

He’s probally going to be Victarion Greyjoy. That’s how I pictured him looking anyway.

  2. marcochan5 says:

My vote goes for a Greyjoy.

  3. TheLordOfLightQuetzalcoatl says:

    Most likely Maester Marwin.

  4. Lucian says:

    Most likely Euron

  5. Oskar Hansson says:

Sure, he’d fit perfectly as one of the Greyjoys or Griff, he’s not too tall for Howland Reed, but he might as well be cast as Coldhands, right?

  6. Russell C. says:

Could he be a Greyjoy like Pirates of the Caribbean or Randall Tarly????

  7. Glen J says:

    Randall Tarly? Jon Connington?

  8. jktiller says:

    Ballin Greyjoy’s brother.

  9. Jason Penrod says:

It has to be Howland Reed. Here’s the reason: They are keeping his role a secret, every other new character has been revealed way in advance. Revealing that he is Howland Reed will also basically say that R+L=J. No other reason that I can think of to bring in Howland Reed, other than to reveal that info.

    • Ian says:

Here’s another reason why they can’t reveal that his jon connington. because it’ll have a major plot twist in the upcoming season 6. all of the plots are there. a war is comming. and jon connington will play a major role on it. and about the r+l=j i think that is not the best time to reveal it. and he can’t be victarion greyjoy in the series coz in the books his going in the mereen to help barristan at some point, but they killed barristan in the series so victarion is a no no.

  10. Ian says:

    Jon Connington for sure. LOL

  11. Dean says:

Mad King all the way people.

  12. Ben says:

    Howland Reed?

  13. Fred says:

    John Targaryens Mothers brother.

  14. He needs a huge role, lots os screen time….it is deserved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. woody says:

    Dothraki

  16. Sam Harris says:

    Victarion Greyjoy

  17. Vara says:

    Randall Tarley by chance? ??

  18. Riichi Coe says:

Thinking he could be (like said) a Greyjoy, or an arch-maester, or possibly the new khal… someone in the Dodorrian/BwB faction too possibly. Hopefully not another recasting…

  19. Hillary says:

Are they bringing back the Greyjoys? I can see him as Aeron, Euron or Victarion!

  20. larry snow says:

Randyll tarly, he looks like mean old goat tooor the warrior septom

  21. Rhys Mott says:

I live near where he was born.

  22. Justin says:

He has that old man look to be Victarion or Euron, but I am really hoping for Jon Connington! Bring some life into the new season with some Griffins!!

  23. Jorge Mota says:

    Definitely a flash-back to Mad King Aerys…

  24. JJ says:

    HAS to be Euron

  25. someone says:

probably a greyjoy … or maybe, just maybe, Griff will finally appear !

  26. Yas says:

Euron Greyjoy all they way! Can’t wait to see The Silence…

  27. Mazdak says:

    Howland Reed maybe?

  28. Joey says:

Maybe a Greyjoy but could be Griff if they go that story route

  29. Justin Wells says:

Too old to be Arthur Dayne, wrong Actor for old man Tarly. Also doesn’t feel right as Howland Reed, looking at the people they got to play the younger Reeds. Mayyyybe Dornish or Stark, but who? No, he’s gonna be a badass Greyjoy.

  30. Justin Wells says:

Definitely either Euron or Victarion Greyjoy, or some character that combines the two, depending on how they adapt the story.

  31. SomeGuy says:

    Victarion Greyjoy?

  32. Sandra says:

    Definitely a greyjoy!

  33. rick says:

He looks like a Stark to me or a Dornish

  34. lrj25 says:

    I vote a Greyjoy.

  35. william says:

Im betting hes brandon in the tree or the rider that leads jojen to the cave of brandon in the tree

  36. Deltaxray468 says:

I think he’s a Greyjoy. I think the High Sparrow is Howland Reed.

It’s also possible he’s Ser Arther Dayne in a flashback with Ned Stark.

Or is he Samwell Tarley’s father.

  37. Blah says:

Could be Tarlys dad. Someone has to come rescue the flowers.

  38. Don W. says:

    Euron or Victarion Greyjoy?
