FYI has ordered 14 half-hour episodes of “Food Porn,” a new series exploring the country’s food scene with a nationwide search for the most popular #foodporn dishes, inspired by the cultural craze and social-media phenomenon of posting photos of food, along with the hashtag.

Currently, there are more than 50 million Instagram posts, using the hashtag “#foodporn,” and the phrase is tagged on Twitter about every two seconds.

Bethenny Frankel, of “Real Housewives” and Skinnygirl fame, will exec produce the project.

Michael Chernow, co-owner of the wildly successful New York restaurant chain the Meatball Shop, will host the series, which will take him on a search for the most buzzed about eats in America, as he meets everyday “tastemakers,” the people behind the posts, to discover why the food photo was so popular and worthy of a #foodporn post.

“People are obsessed with photographing, sharing and discussing the food they eat on social media,” said Jana Bennett, president of FYI and LMN, who made the announcement today at A+E Networks’ upfront presentation. “FYI will be capturing this convergence of mouth-watering food and social trends in a unique and entertaining format.”

Frankel commented, “I am excited to be a part of a series that will showcase the decadence and obsession people have with sharing their food online.”

“Food Porn” is produced by Loud TV with exec producers Nick Rigg, David George, Jordana Hochman and Brent Montgomery. Gena McCarthy and James Bolosh will exec produce for FYI.
