Singer-songwriter of the moment Ed Sheeran has joined creator Kurt Sutter’s blood-soaked FX drama “The Bastard Executioner” in a recurring role. He’ll play an ambitious, potentially lethal character who is being groomed by a high-ranking church elder. This isn’t the first time Sutter has used musicians on his shows. “Sons of Anarchy” cast both Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love in the final season of “Sons of Anarchy.” [The Hollywood Reporter]

Riley Smith, who played Arlene’s (Carrie Preston) beau on the final season of “True Blood,” is getting together with a different Southern lady. He joins the upcoming cast of “Nashville” as Markus Keen, a musician who soon gets too big for his britches after he signs with Rayna’s (Connie Britton) fledgling Highway 65 label. [TV Line]
