Veteran sportscaster Dan Patrick and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison have teamed to develop a workplace comedy for NBC revolving around a sports news program.

The untitled project will be penned by Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka, who at present are exec producers of “Dice,” the upcoming Andrew Dice Clay comedy for Showtime. Patrick is exec producing with Doug Drazin and Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson for Sony Pictures TV, where Happy Madison is based.

The single-camera half-hour focuses on a sports news program dubbed “The Hit Show,” where a young YouTube personality is hired to co-anchor with a seasoned pro. NBC has given the project a script plus penalty deal.

Patrick is a co-host of NBC’s “Football Night in America” pre-game telecast. He hosts the syndicated “Dan Patrick Show” radio program and is a contributor to Sports Illustrated. From 1989 to 2006 he was a co-anchor of ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”

Gatewood and Tanaka previously created the short-lived NBC comedy “Animal Practice.” On the film side the pair penned the 2011 Jonah Hill comedy “The Sitter.”

Gatewood and Tanaka are repped by UTA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.
