Cynthia Nixon to Guest Star on ‘The Affair’

Showtime’s “The Affair” has wooed Cynthia Nixon, signing on the “Sex and the City” alum as a guest star for the second season of the Golden Globe-winning drama.

Nixon will play Marilyn Sanders, a Manhattan-based couples therapist who is helping Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) come together after a period of strain. SPOILER: This may or may not have anything to do with the fact that the drama’s first season ended with Noah under arrest for the murder of Alison’s former brother-in-law, Scotty (Colin Donnell) — a case that series co-creator Sarah Treem has said will be wrapped up by the end of season two.

Season two of “The Affair” also continues to explore the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the aforementioned crime that brings these individuals back together. While the first season concentrated on Noah and Alison’s points of view, the sophomore season will also show the perspectives of jilted spouses Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson). It returns at 10 p.m. Sunday on Showtime.
