Cary Fukunaga and his production company, Parliament Of Owls, have inked a two-year, overall television deal with Paramount Television, it was announced Tuesday.

The deal gives Paramount TV exclusive rights to produce and distribute scripted television programming directed, written and/or produced by Fukunaga for broadcast, cable, premium cable and online audiences. The writer-director is already working with the studio as director and executive producer of TNT’s upcoming event miniseries “The Alienist.”

“Working with Cary on ‘The Alienist’ has been such a rewarding creative experience for all of us at Paramount Television. Cary has become one of the most interesting writer/directors in the business with an exciting, unique take on characters and narratives,” said Amy Powell, president, Paramount Television. “On behalf of Brad Grey and the television team, we welcome him to the Paramount family and look forward to a successful partnership with him as we expand our footprint in high quality original programming.”

Fukunaga received an Emmy Award for directing the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.” His third feature film, “Beasts of No Nation,” famously shook up the film industry with a Netflix release.

“Working with Paramount on ‘The Alienist’ has been a great experience, and I’m thrilled to expand upon our partnership” said Fukunaga. “I look forward to digging in and collaborating on a number of exciting and diverse projects.”
