Trevor Noah may be Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” replacement, but he wasn’t the only comic Comedy Central approached about taking the job. A recent New York Times magazine article revealed that the comedy network considered several other higher-profile individuals for the gig, including Amy Poehler and Chris Rock.

The feature states that someone from Comedy Central “made a call to Amy Poehler … to gauge her interest,” and cites an off-the-record source who said, “They were pretty much expecting her to say no, and it was the quickest no in history.”

Chris Rock was apparently interested, but the comedian did not want to sign on past the 2016 presidential election. The Viacom-owned network ultimately decided against such a short stint.

Stewart’s announcement that he would leave the “Daily Show” back in February ignited a flurry of speculation about who would be his replacement, but none of the postulating had been confirmed until now.

Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s president of content and original programming, confirmed that the network “had a lot of conversations with different people,” but he said that Noah was the only potential host to receive a formal offer.

  4. Blac Adam says:

I’ve watched some of Trevor Noah’s stand up routines as soon as I heard he would be stepping in to replace Jon Stewart. I wanted to get some kind of feel for his style and comedic talents.

    The show…is going….to SUCK!!

One of the routines Noah is most proud of is a bit about people in Africa being freaked out over an escalator.

I’ll just let that sink in for a bit.

  5. Lucifer says:

Of course Noah was the only one wanting the gig, he’s an unknown comedian who will get tons of attention on TDS even if it fails miserably. Everyone’s been crying about “so many funny people looked over” but Comedy Central clearly went to people that they even knew would turn it down because they actually have careers. Even one of the few remaining sidekicks on TDS, Jessica Williams, said she didn’t want the job. lmao
