ABC News will air a two-hour interview between Diane Sawyer and Bruce Jenner, the Olympian whose quest for sexual identity has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks. The special’s airdate falls on the second day of TV’s May sweeps period.

ABC News declined to offer much detail on the content of the talks but said in a statement that the interview was “far-ranging and exclusive” and would appear as a special two-hour edition of “20/20” starting at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, April 24.

ABC’s ability to secure the interview may raise eyebrows, as Jenner has long appeared on NBCUniversal’s E! as part of his involvement with the Kardashian family, whose reality show is a staple of that network’s schedule. As such, executives at NBC News may have thought they had an early in on such a conversation.

Jenner, whose recent appearance has spurred discussion the former athlete may have undergone a sex change, had been married to Kris Kardashian, the mother of the reality-TV clan, and has been part of that show for many seasons.

Your so very right Marie. Studies have shown that most people who leave the “hate comments” on news stories wish they were funny. Additionally, most negative commenters were actually very lonely and scared. They are usually middle to low income class and have very little education. They can’t figure out why no one comments on their Facebook or follows their Twitter so they are seeking the attention elsewhere. Everything got jacked up for them back in 2009 when they couldn’t get an analog signal on their t.v.’s anymore at the trailer park. All they can do now is walk 20 minutes down to the library to use a computer and anomalously post comments on stories and have something to talk about down at the laundry mat later.
Whatever Bruce Jenner wishes to do is his decision. The media and people are the one’s asking for more. He’ll walk away from this interview with more money than any of the haters out there will ever see. That is unless one of their scratcher tickets pays off.

    • KC says:

I have never been impressed with arrogant, pompous, smug people that need to marginalize and belittle others, to feel superior.

  2. Jeffrey Johnston says:

This is TRULY Demonic influence over his mind, Been there done that,And through it all I came to know Jesus>>>Bruce is believing a lie from the devil himself….Please Pray for Bruce…

  3. Dian Sawyer of all people..She was a disaster when she did the Micheal Jackson and Lisa Presley interview. She always looks like she is sucking on a sour lemon.

  4. Marie says:

Sad that most of these comments are so cruel. If your not interested in this topic why comment at all? We have a huge problem with bullying and most of you are doing that exact thing. Does anyone have any compassion for anyone but themselves. If you don’t have anything nice to say just keep your mouth shut. No one lives anyone else’s life so to judge them is wrong. Worry about your own life, I’m sure none of you are perfect!

A two hour Hen Party while the world burns.

  6. jio says:

The man is 66 yrs. old and is just now having gender identity issues. I think he just wants to be another Kardashian Slut. He’s been around them for 25 yrs. so he decided to join them.

  7. Yvonne Howard says:

Who besides himself cares ,just an old pervert

  8. oh my! i hope he doesn’t hit on her.

  9. Chris Ciceri says:

It would be “gender” identity, not sexual identity….completely different.

  10. Couldn’t they have gotten someone who is more queer-friendly to do the interview. Barbara Walters has not had a good record with LGBTQ based issues in her interviewing and her ideas.

  11. Bill says:

This article states that the Sawyer interview is about Bruce Jenner’s sexual identity. Nope. Unless there’s information covered that we haven’t been made aware of, this is about gender identity. Big difference. C’mon, Variety…

  12. CAROL says:

TWO hours is a BIT MUCH… One would be totally too much…

  13. Dan Clancey says:

There’s no such thing as a former Olympian – it just doesn’t exist. Once a person has competed in an Olympic games they are an Olympian for life.

  14. Swag says:

This is a joke, right? A so-called “major” network interviewing an obviously mentally-challenged person for TWO hours? Insane.

    • slick1ru2 says:

Why do I think you not only have no expertise in the field but no formal medical training of any type.

    • The medical world does not see transgender individuals as “mentally-challenged”.
The psychology world doesn’t see trans* individuals as “mentally challenged”.

Jenner isn’t mentally challenged at all dude. Not at all.

  15. So it seems all we care more about is what Bruce Jenner does with his dick. No one seems to care about still being involved in the longest war in our country’s history, and why it’s such an inexplicable quagmire. No one cares we spend more money than we make (debt / GDP ratio 101%), and no one cares that American business interests are slowly crushing American middle class success and lifting up China by thinking only of their short-term bottom line. We must initiate Congressional term limits, crack down on private lobbies shaping legislation, and provide incentives for businesses that profit from America to LET AMERICA PROFIT FROM THEM, TOO! Force manufacturing back to this country, bridge the gap of wealth, and stop worshiping the almighty dollar at the expense of our nation and our future.

PLEASE, tell me when this is on so I can hear more about Bruce Jenner’s haircut and what he likes to put his thingy into!

    • Susie Q. says:

Please tell me what all of this has to do with Bruce Jenner & his identity crisis. Lol

    • PEople who want to watch this are people who are ooking for a relatively positive look at a portion of society that has been harassed, bullied, beaten, abused, killed, and assaulted for their gender identity. This interview is happening because it needs to happen

  16. Mjkbk says:

The only things this story mentions as points of interest about Jenner are his sexual identity and his Kardashian associations.

Not ONE WORD about the recent traffic accident he may have caused, which resulted in a woman’s DEATH.

All that matters to the infotainment industry is his transgender status. ABC wouldn’t have given the guy five MINUTES worth if its attention before this. But NOW, we’ll be treated to two HOURS of Bruce Jenner.

No thanks. That’s two hours too many.

    • Alan says:

That’s right, and he’s gonna walk away with a big pay check. Good for him.
As far as the traffic incident~ you said it yourself~ “traffic accident”. It’s extremely tragic and sad that Ms. Howe died in this “accident”. There were 30,000 people killed in traffic accidents last year. Go research each one and email your garble babble to them.

  17. Nanny Mo says:

Things like this can only come off as a freak show. It’s such a shame.

  18. Jacques Strappe says:

If Jenner weren’t part of the Kardashian reality schlock and awe drama BS, I would absolutely feel more compassionately about this great Olympic athlete’s gender identity issue. His association with the Kardashians and their need for constant attention and validation, along with Jenner’s freakish looking plastic surgery, etc makes me not care one iota about the fate of any of these people. I just wish they would all disappear and never reappear.
