ABC Family Orders Supernatural Pilot & Comedy from ‘The Office’ Team

ABC Family has ordered two new pilots — supernatural drama series “Beyond,” from the creator of “Heroes,” and half-hour, multicam comedy “Gorgeous Morons,” hailing from the team behind “The Office.”

“Quality comedies and epic adventures are key elements of our programming strategy,” Karey Burke, exec VP of programming and development at ABC Family, announced Friday. “The teams behind these pilots have a history of creating amazing series in those genres, and I am thrilled to have them creating for ABC Family.”

“Gorgeous Morons” follows two “stunningly handsome but ridiculously simple” brothers, one of whom is a model and the other, a personal trainer. The two guys’ lives are rocked by their brainy new female roommate, a literature PhD who is not a looker by their personal standards. The comedy from ABC Signature Studios is co-created and exec produced by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (“The Office,” “Bad Teacher,” “Hello Ladies,” “Trophy Wife”), plus “The Office’s” head writer Danny Chun, who will write the script.

“Beyond” centers around a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years to discover new supernatural abilities that launch him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. The one-hour drama is created, written and exec produced by Adam Nussdorf (“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland”). “Heroes” alum Tim Kring, Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will also serve as exec producers. The project will be produced by Imperative Entertainment and Automatik.

“Beyond” marks the second recent supernatural project for the cabler, which ordered “Shadowhunters,” based on “The Mortal Instruments” franchise, to series.
