TVN Chile’s highest-rated telenovela “La Chucara” is making its market debut at Cannes Mipcom TV mart with Telemundo Intl. handling sales as per a distribution pact inked in 2007.
“La Chucara” turns on a feisty young woman who returns to the hacienda where she grew up to reunite with her family, but clashes with the new owner, a widower. Sparks fly to ignite a romance between them despite opposition from both families.
The 190-episode telenovela debuted Dec. 1 with a rating of 12.9%. It has since posted an average rating of 11% during its run through August when it reported 14% ratings.
“La Chucara” has various elements at play: “a great script, a stellar cast and a good production crew, which together created a gem to captivate an audience with humor, drama and, obviously, romance,” said executive producer Alejandro Burr.
On Aug. 24 “La Chucara” was succeeded by “Esa no soy yo” (“That’s Not Me”), which combines thriller elements with a melodrama.
Telemundo Intl. is still in talks to handle foreign sales for “Esa no soy yo.” “Because La Chucara will be making its market debut this Mipcom, we will begin to discuss negotiations at this event, “ said Esperanza Garay, SVP of sales and acquisitions for Latin America, Telemundo Intl. “We look forward to announcing this news at Natpe.”
Since Telemundo Intl. signed an agreement with TVN Chile in 2007, they have distributed such TVN Chile telenovela hits as “¿Donde Esta Elisa?” “Los Hijos del Monte,” “El Laberinto de Alicia,” “Complices,” “La Familia de al Lado,” “Vuelve Temprano” and “Somos los Carmona.”
