Discop Africa Adds Meet Your Stars Program to Its Content Showcase

Discop Africa TV adds Meet Your

Los Angeles and Johannesburg-based business event organizer Basic Lead, which hosts the biannual Discop Africa TV content market, has announced the launch of Meet Your Stars, in which content-makers will unveil new and returning shows to media buyers and advertisers, at the 11th edition of Discop in Johannesburg, which runs Nov. 4-6. The program is expected to be a highlight of this year’s event, which is Africa’s leading showcase for content developers, producers and distributors.

Meet Your Stars will offer producers and distribs the opportunity to unveil their upcoming TV shows, as well as new seasons of returning primetime hits, to influential journalists, programmers, media buyers, advertisers and social media bloggers. Twenty-four new and returning shows will be grouped in the categories Comedy & Lifestyle, Series & Soaps, and Competition & Reality Shows, and given 90-minute slots to present their content to leading industry influencers.

According to Basic Lead’s general manager Patrick Zuchowicki, those influencers will have the power to affect viewing and purchase decisions in Africa’s booming television ecosystem.

“In today’s multi-screen world, it is vital for brand new shows to have a strong, immersive launch from the very start,” says Zuchowicki. “Generating an even more tangible buzz for programs and the talent both onscreen and behind (it) during Discop Africa will now be significant part of our mission.”

Organizers expect some 1,500 delegates from more than 90 countries to attend this year’s event, representing key broadcasters, pay-TV platforms, mobile networks, online operators, producers, distributors, advertisers, and investors driving multiplatform TV business across Africa.

The growing event has become the prime showcase for what Basic Lead estimates is now a $500 million TV content market in Africa, a figure that, according to Zuchowicki, has doubled since 2011.
