Apple Music Books Dr. Dre, Elton John for Beats 1 Radio Shows

Taylor Swift’s album isn’t the only reason to be excited about Apple Music.

Dr. Dre, Elton John and Drake will host radio shows on Apple’s new 24/7 global radio station, Beats 1, the New York Times reported this morning. Other celebrity hosts will include Jaden Smith, the British electronic group Disclosure, St. Vincent (Annie Clark) and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

Dr. Dre’s show will be known as — what else — “The Pharmacy,” while John’s program will be called “Elton John’s Rocket Hour.” Zane Lowe, formerly of BBC1, will helm the station from its Los Angeles headquarters.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is credited with the idea for Beats 1, billed as “the world’s local station.” Reznor was the chief creative officer alongside Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine at Beats Music before it merged with Apple. He has continued with the venture as one of Apple Music’s designers.

The celebrity host news comes on the heels of the announcement that Taylor Swift’s monster hit “1989” will make its streaming debut on the platform.

Beats 1 will be available for free on all Apple devices, unlike Apple Music, which will charge $9.99 per month after a free three-month trial period.

Apple Music goes live June 30.
