The Alexei Ratmansky production brought a modern style to the classic tale courtesy Russia’s Mariinsky Ballet, formerly known as Kirov Ballet. Mariinsky’s 64-person orchestra provided live instrumentation of Sergei Prokofiev’s 1944 score.
Diana Vishneva, principal dancer with St. Petersburg-based Mariinsky, danced the title role. Mariinsky premiered “Cinderella” in 2002.
Clocking in at nearly three hours, “Cinderella” will play four more times through Oct. 11. Also coming this season at the Music Center include performances from Hubbard Street + The Second City, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Compagnie Käfig and American Ballet Theatre.
