Zac Efron is set to star in Fox and Chernin Entertainment’s “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.”

Jake Szymanski is on board to direct, with Peter Chernin, David Ready and Jenno Topping producing for Chernin Entertainment, along with Jonathan Levine. Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien penned the script, the story of two brothers who place an online ad to find dates for a wedding and the ad goes viral.

Daria Cercek is overseeing the project for Fox.

Chernin and the studio will now look to fill the role of Efron’s brother; they’re hoping this film produces results similar to Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy team-up on “The Heat.”

Following the success this past summer of “Neighbors,” which grossed $150 million domestically, studios such as Fox see Efron as an actor who can have more success with adult comedies aimed at males. Efron also has the raunchy comedy “Dirty Grandpa” at Lionsgate; he is set to star in that film with Robert De Niro.

Efron recently wrapped production on the Working Title pic “We Are Your Friends.” He is repped by CAA, Alchemy Entertainment and Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.

Obviously he found his genre – Comedy. I wonder, who will play his brother? Hollywood better finds someone who looks similar to him because I’m tired of Hollywood movies where two brother don’t look slightly similar.

  4. Tommy says:

Dave Franco as his brother. You’re welcome.
