Ferrell and Poehler will portray parents who lose the money intended to pay for their daughter’s college tuition and open an underground casino out of desperation. “Neighbors” writer Andrew J. Cohen is directing from a script he co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien.
The project marks Cohen’s feature directorial debut; he previously directed short films and “Funny or Die” sketches.
Good Universe is producing with Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez banner. Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy are executive producing.
Simpkins, 17, has been seen in “Pride and Glory,” “Revolutionary Road” and “A Single Man.” She’s repped by WME, Thruline and Ziffren Brittenham.
