Phase two of the maze trials has officially begun.
20th Century Fox released the first trailer for “Maze Runner: Scorch Trials,” the sequel to last year’s adaptation of the YA hit “Maze Runner,” on Tuesday.
Although Dylan O’Brien’s Thomas and his friends are no longer trapped at the center of a maze behind mechanical walls, the outside world might be even more frightening. The gang soon finds itself fighting for survival in the Scorch — a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
“The course of your lives will determine the course of humanity into light or darkness,” a voiceover says.
Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Ki Hong Lee return from the first film. Wes Ball and T.S. Nowlin also came back to direct and write the second film of the trilogy, respectively.
“Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” hits theaters on September 18.
