The Variety Screening Series will join with AARP’s annual Movies for Grownups film festival event to showcase the year’s most anticipated films that are campaigning for the upcoming awards season.
Each screening will be followed by a Q&A conversation with the films’ directors, writers, producers and cast members.
The lineup for the 2015 series includes “Brooklyn” with star Saoirse Ronan and director John Crowley on Oct. 26; “Room” with star Brie Larson on Oct. 28; “Suffragette” with star Carey Mulligan, director Sarah Gavron and screenwriter Abi Morgan on Nov. 17; and “The Danish Girl” with star Alicia Vikander and director Tom Hooper on Nov. 18.
Additional films will be announced at a later date.
“Variety is excited with this new collaboration,” said Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns. “There is a natural overlap in our two respective audiences and we look forward to working together on a successful screening series this season.”
“Our members and moviegoers aged 50-plus are an audience that cannot be ignored and we’re excited to celebrate films that are relevant to their lives by bringing them to the forefront,” said Myrna Blyth, SVP and editorial director for AARP Media.
The screening series is open to voting members of various guilds, AARP members and invited VIP guests from the entertainment community.
