Universal Sets Family Drama ‘The New Winter’ as Movie


Universal Pictures has optioned “The New Winter” from author Anna Snoekstra and set it up with Working Title.

It’s the first project set up by Universal with Working Title since Universal announced last week that it had extended its first-look deal to 2020.

The book will be published by Mira, an imprint of Harlequin, in 2016. Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce. Liza Chasin will exec produce.

The story centers on a runaway woman trying to escape her past who pretends to be a girl abducted from a small town 10 years before. The girl’s family takes her in, until she slowly starts to uncover the mysterious circumstances and family secrets that actually led to their daughter’s disappearance.

Executive VP Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for the studio.

Snoekstra is represented by CAA in conjunction with MacKenzie Fraser-Bub at Trident Media Group.
