Tommy Lee Jones has joined Matt Damon in the next installment of the “Bourne” franchise.

Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles are also on board to join the action series, while Paul Greengrass is back to direct and pen the script with Christopher Rouse.

Frank Marshall will produce again alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith will also produce, while Rouse and Henry Morrison will serve as executive producers.

Plot details are unknown at this time, though sources say Jones will play a superior officer at the CIA. Edward Norton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn have playing similar roles in past “Bourne” movies. Production is expected to begin later this summer. The film will bow on July 29, 2016.

Damon’s three Bourne movies, the first of which was released in 2002, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Damon last played the iconic role in 2007’s “The Bourne Ultimatum,” and Jeremy Renner stepped into the franchise with 2012’s Tony Gilroy-directed “The Bourne Legacy.”

Jones was last seen in “The Homesman,” which he also wrote and directed, and will appear alongside Kevin Costner in the upcoming thriller “Criminal.”

He is represented by CAA and Jacobson, Russell, Saltz & Fingerman.

  4. Thesaurusrs says:

Mostly I’m curious to see what Bourne has been up to these last few years. Such a great character!

  5. JR says:

I hope he’s not going to play yet another corrupt superior a la Cooper, Cox and Strathairn!

  6. Marticus says:

These are some of my favorite movies ever. What will be difficult to do is equal the greatness of the first three movies. I love Tommy Lee, but honestly he seems a bit too old for a Noah Vosen type role. Maybe they have something else in mind? More like a retried Albert Finney type. Would make sense, since it’s been a number of years since the last “real” Bourne movie. That gives them the opportunity to tweak the formula a bit.

  7. ily says:

I LOVE YOU MATT DAMON! Keep on keeping on. Because you know what ur doing. #truegeniusforya!! :):) xxxxxxx

  8. Clarence Beeks says:

Noooooooo! Why do they never learn to leave well alone when they’ve created something so good? First the persistent Trainspotting sequel rumours, now this… Terrible idea.

  9. Adam says:

Yikes. He looks like he’s about 100 years old.

  10. Ty says:

Uh oh, Bourne is in trouble now with US Marshall Samuel Gerard in his heels

  11. Bobbi says:

To John: It’s bad enough that we have to put up with never ending pop-up ads and articles constantly being interrupted with someone trying to sell something or patronize a business….please don’t use this comment space to try and sell us something…it’s rude, annoying and frankly we don’t give a rats ass.
