He will oversee marketing for the company, which supports EuropaCorp’s film releases in the United States along with Relativity’s slate. Gargotta will report to Relativity president Tucker Tooley and EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert.
Gargotta stepped down in July as president of Sony Pictures Worldwide Creative Advertising in one of a long line of departures at the Culver City lot. During 13 years at Sony, Gargotta oversaw and conceived marketing campaigns for “The Da Vinci Code,” “Salt,” the “Jump Street” movies, “American Hustle” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise, along with the ad materials for the last three James Bond titles — “Casino Royale,” “Quantum of Solace” and “Skyfall.”
He previously worked at Intralink Film Graphic Design and Trailer Park Inc.
Relativity’s upcoming films include “The Bronze”; “Masterminds,” starring Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis; “Kidnap,” starring Halle Berry; and “Autobahn,” starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley.
EuropaCorp’s upcoming films include “The Transporter Refueled”; “Shut-In,” starring Naomi Watts; “The Lake,” starring Sullivan Stapleton and J.K. Simmons; and “Nine Lives,” starring Kevin Spacey.
