‘The Interview,’ ‘Sex Tape,’ Make Razzies Shortlist

Sex Tape Movie

As the film business gears up to honor the best films of the year at the Academy Awards, the worst are getting recognized, too.

The shortlist for the Razzies, which names the worst films of the year, has been obtained by awards site Gold Derby, listing some of the biggest grossers of the year, like “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” and others that didn’t do so well. The shortlist isn’t a concrete list of the nominations — rather, it’s a preview of the contenders for the dubious honor.

Seth McFarlene’s “A Million Ways to Die” looks like it could be the frontrunner for the awards, popping up eight times. “Sex Tape,” which garnered mostly negative reviews, is listed six times. Seth Rogen and James Franco are both on the list for worst actor for “The Interview,” as well as worst onscreen duo.

Others who pop up several times include Kirk Cameron’s “Saving Christmas,” Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic “Noah” and Nicolas Cage starrer “Left Behind.”

Voting for the awards end Jan. 10, and nominations will be announced Jan. 14. See the full list in the style it was obtained (which includes some commentary and jokes on movie title names) below.

  1. DougW says:

Elizabeth Banks gives a terrific comic performance in “Walk of Shame” and Kelsey is excellent in “The Expendables 3.”

  2. Dominic Kaye says:

What’s people’s deal with Michael Bay? If you don’t like his movies don’t watch them just to bitch about them. And the same goes for Adam Sandler, all these ‘reviews’ are just people jumping on a band-wagon lately.

  3. This list in not credible without Dumb and Dumber To in the list for worst movie, worst rip-off, worst sequel and worst direction.

  4. Just My Opinion says:

MIA here: INTERIOR: LEATHER BAR (released on dvd in early 2014). Yet another exercise in artsy academic masturbation from the one and only James Franco. It purportedly deals with the missing censored footage from Friedkin;s CRUISING; instead, we get Franco (playing himself) lapping up celebrity deference from a group of unknown actors who are understandably nervous and bewildered over what exactly it IS they are trying to re-create in a small makeshift studio (they’re not offered much help – possibly because Franco and colleagues didn’t know themselves; but Franco sure seems to be enjoying himself; he grins a lot). A pointless, ego-driven mess, and one of the Worst Flicks of the Year.

  5. jhs39 says:

Some of these are really questionable choices–not sure how Darren Aronofsky’s ambitious Noah deserves to make the list. Walk of Shame wasn’t good but Elizabeth Banks was excellent in it. Ditto for Nicole Kidman in When I Go to Sleep, Charlize Theron in A Million Ways to Die in the West and Mel Gibson in Expendables 3. Megan Fox actually got some of the best reviews of her career for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It seems like a lot of these potential nominations are knee-jerk choices based more on bad buzz or bad box-office or a person being a previous nominee rather than the actual quality of the work being mocked.

  6. Chief O'Hara says:

So, Kirk Cameron made the anti-christian types at the Razzies pout, apparently. That Haunted House movie is the worst thing I saw all year.

    • jhs39 says:

Saving Christmas has a critical rating of 0% positive on Rotten Tomatoes–I haven’t seen the movie and don’t plan to but you can’t get any worse than 0.

      • CMarks says:

Saving Christmas deserves to be on this list in every category. Christian audiences (such as my family) deserve better movies then this and being honestly critical of a truly bad movies is certainly not being anti-Christian. It’s time someone took religious ticket buyers seriously instead off giving them crap and then blaming it on the anti-Christian “types” for bad-mouthing it.

  7. Alex says:

I never thought I’d ever feel sorry for Seth McFarlane.

    • jhs39 says:

I felt a lot more sorry for Charlize Theron and Giovanni Ribisi–Seth McFarlane had no business being a lead in the movie–he came across as a big douche who really loves his own jokes. Every time Charlize Theron’s character was forced to say something nice about him I felt a little sick inside.
