Watch: First Trailer for Joel Edgerton’s ‘The Gift’

The newly launched STX Entertainment has released the first trailer for its first release — “The Gift,” starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Joel Edgerton — four months ahead of its July 31 release.

Bateman and Hall portray a young married couple whose life is going as planned until a chance encounter with a creepy acquaintance from Bateman’s character’s high school, played by Edgerton, sends their world into a tailspin.

“You think you’re done with the past but the past isn’t done with you,” Edgerton’s character warns.

The producer is horror specialist Jason Blum, who also produced “Whiplash.” “The Gift” also marks the feature directorial debut of Edgerton, who wrote the script.

The trailer launched on the same day that China’s Huayi Brothers agreed a deal to co-finance at least 18 STX movies to be produced over a three-year period.
