Jim Amos has joined STX Entertainment as senior VP of theatrical distribution. He will report to domestic distribution president Kevin Grayson.

Amos most recently served as VP of distribution at alternative content company Fathom Events.

He previously spent nearly 30 years as a member of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s distribution team, including working as domestic distribution president from 2009 to 2013. At Sony, he worked on the releases of the James Bond, Spider-Man and Men in Black franchises.

STX Entertainment is focused on mid-budget movies, the kind of pictures that major studios have opted out of in favor of costly comicbook movies and sequels. It plans to release between 12 and 15 major motion pictures annually beginning in 2016.

STX Entertainment also announced that former Paramount and Weinstein Company exec Mark Mulcahy has been named VP of in-theater marketing, and Robert Springer will serve as VP of theatrical distribution and operations. Springer has previously worked at Paramount Pictures, Relativity Media and Overture Films.

Upcoming STX Entertainment releases include psychological thriller “The Gift” with Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton; “The Secret in Their Eyes,” a remake of the Oscar-winning Argentinian film of the same name to star Julia Roberts; and “The Free State of Jones,” an action-drama starring Matthew McConaughey.
