Steve Zahn has come on board Fox’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” — the eighth film in the franchise — joining Woody Harrelson and Gabriel Chavarria.

Matt Reeves, who directed 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” is returning to helm from a script by Mark Bomback. Chernin Entertainment, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are producing the film, which begins shooting this fall in Vancouver.

The storyline is being kept under wraps. Zahn will play an ape and Harrelson will play a character called the Colonel.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” a sequel to 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” reboot, grossed more than $700 million worldwide. “War for the Planet of the Apes” will be released on July 14, 2017.

Zahn’s recent credits include “Treme,” “Captain Fantastic,” “The Ridiculous 6” and “Dallas Buyers Club.” He’s repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment and attorney Frank Stewart.

The “Apes” series is the best franchise going, currently. Eagerly anticipating the next chapter!

Who could have imagined anybody saying that in 2015? I remember one of the comments on a story about _Rise of the Planet of the Apes_ before it came out, where someone said, _They’re remaking _Conquest of the Planet of the Apes_? Who could have thought that was a good idea?” It wasn’t exactly a remake of that movie, but bottom line is, who could have thought this franchise would be a hot franchise again?
